Talent comes at a young age but to find a singer/songwriter with the talent of British artist Joe Oliver, it’s rare.
We asked Joe some questions about his new music, life and musical inspirations.
- Tell Pop On Down viewers about you!
I am a 16 year old artist and multi instrumentalist from the South of England. I began the guitar at age 6 and became obsessed, and as I grew older I began songwriting and found it an incredible outlet.
- Who are your musical inspirations?
I have drawn inspiration from a plethora of artists from the finger stye guitarist Tommy Emmanuel and recently Lauv, Jeremy Zucker and Rex Orange County.
- Who would be your dream collaboration?
If I could choose anyone to collaborate with it would have to be my current favourite artist Rex Orange County as I love his unique sound and song writing style and he seems like a genuinely nice guy.
- Where did your love for music come from?
My interest in music sparked when I saw a finger style guitarist playing an arrangement of a pop song, I loved the intricacies of their playing and wanted to replicate it, and spent a few days copying the hand positions and movements and gradually got better.
- What’s your favourite part of being an artist?
For me, the best part of being an artist is performing my own music for people as I feel like the songwriting process is so personal so it feels amazing to share that sort of thing with other people and seeing how they react and relate.
- What’s your favourite track of the moment?
I am currently obsessed with Joji’s latest release ‘Run’, I love the production on his vocals and find myself subconsciously humming the melody.
- Who would be your dream dinner guests?
My dream dinner party guests, would be Seth Macfarlane as I think he would be a great guy to be around I would also love to meet some of my favourite artists and producers such as Rex Orange County and Marshmello and ask them about their backgrounds and where they started and came from.
- If you could choose one venue to perform at, where would it be?
I think the atmosphere at Glastonbury would be incredible and it would be amazing to say that I have played on the same stage as music heavyweights.
- Tell us about your new single ‘Why’
My latest single ‘Why’ is about the difficulties I had in communicating to my sister who suffered from serious mental health problems, I tried to create an upbeat and catchy melody to juxtapose the inspiration for the song but trying not to forget that the topic at hand is a serious one that many people suffer with.
- Where can people find you?
If people want to find out a bit more about me, I am @Joe_Oliver_ on instagram. Joe Oliver on Spotify and YouTube.
